When the royal press was created in 1808, one of the things printed was a map of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It took four years to be engraved by Paulo dos Santos Fereira Souto, directed by João Caetano de Rivara, using the model executed by J. A. dos Reis, cartographer. The original plate is in the Museu da Imprensa Nacional, Brasilia.
